Reading

We have read many interesting stories, fiction and non-fiction.  We have focused on different reading strategies to make us better readers.  We have also learned many new concepts in Grammar dealing with nouns, common and proper as well as the plural form.  This will surly help in our writing.

Spelling

I continue to be impressed with how well they are doing on their Friday spelling test. Thanks for the extra support at home.

Writing

Our big project this past month was our bat reports and I couldn’t be more pleased at how hard the students worked on these expository reports.  They are each complete with topic sentences, main ideas, supporting details and concluding sentences.  Look for these when they come home.

Math

In math we are working on multi-digit addition with regrouping.  Everyone seems to have a fine grasp on this skill.

Soc. Studies

We have taken the last few weeks and studied bats and spiders.  If you have been down our hall at school lately you may be feeling a bit batty.  Our hall is filled with about 50 bats flying around.  Some bats have interesting facts that we have learned, and some are just cute as can be with a few familiar faces.  Ask your child about it.

Social Skills Award

Congratulations to Connor Crary who received the Award for October.  How to follow Directions.  This month we are focusing on the skill of How to Give a Complement.  We have had many students from our class earn rewards and pick from the doghouse which is filled with fun toys.  Every time your child is caught being good or doing something nice for someone they earn a “dog bone”.  At the assembly Mr. Gameon draws out several “dog bones” and those drawn get to choose a toy from the dog house.  It is a lot of fun, feel free to join us.  If your child is receiving an award I will be sure to inform you in advance.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
